Survey pin on a lake?

We're a bit confused by a 2023 survey that shows a pin in the middle of a detention pond. On site, we found a taped pipe about 3 feet away on land. Do you also think the pipe is just marking it nearby? Water levels isnt an issue we assume.

It sounds like that pipe might actually be an offset marker. Surveyors tend to use those when they want to steer clear of putting a pin directly in the water. Ideally, it should connect back to the spot indicated on the plan. Have you checked if there's any ID on the pipe, or if it's marked or capped? If you haven't, it could be a good idea to revisit the survey notes or even give the surveyor a quick call just to confirm everything

Thats what we've been wondering taylor, i guess its an automatic and they didnt pinpoint it themselves
